Introduction
Matter is an open-source, unified standard for smart home devices developed to enable interoperability across various ecosystems and manufacturers.
Matter was created to simplify the smart home experience by ensuring that devices from different brands and ecosystems can seamlessly work together, regardless of the platform (like Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, or Apple HomeKit).
The protocol supports Wi-Fi, Ethernet, and Thread (a low-power mesh networking protocol) as communication methods, allowing for flexible connectivity options.
SONOFF was one of the first brands to adopt Matter in its products.
This guide is intended to show how to add SONOFF devices compatible with Matter to other platforms, such as Apple HomeKit.

Pair with Matter
| Before pairing the device with another platform via Matter, make sure it is first paired with the eWeLink App. This step is important, as it allows you to configure and adjust the device settings. |
After pairing the device in the eWeLink app, the user can proceed to pair it with an external platform. In this case, we will use Apple HomeKit as an example.
To do this, we will follow the steps below:
- Open the device settings of the SONOFF Matter-compatible device (in this case, the MINI-RBS). At the bottom of the screen, the user will find the "Enable Pairing Mode" option. This will prepare the device to be paired via Matter.
- Once the user taps this button, a setup code and a QR code will be automatically generated. The user can use either one to pair the device with Apple HomeKit. Alternatively, it's also possible to scan the QR code found in the device manual.
- Now, the user can copy the code or scan it in the 3rd party platform. Open the App Home to pair with Apple Homekit.
- In the Home App, add a new accessory
- Next, paste the Matter code previous copy from eWelink app
- The device will be paired in the Apple homekit and then set a device name.
- Next, set a room for device.
- After that, the device is correctly added to other Matter platform - Apple Homekit. Now the user can control the device through eWelink app and Apple's Home App.
- Taping in defintion button, you can check some device's properties
